The wine growing region Friuli is located in the north-east of Italy with boarders to Austria and Slowenia. Since the seventies friuli takes a prioir position concerning white wines. The wines place emphasis on their fruit and are typical for the respective sort. Friuli ows its positive image especially some vineries possessing wine yards in the narrow stripe along the slowenian boarder with the areas Collio and Colli Orientali .
In Friuli international grapes and autonomous grapes grow side by side. In the eighties the production of red wine had a big boom in Friuli. In this context the domestic grapes Pignolo, Refosco and Schioppetino have to be mentionned. But also this region is more and more dominated from french grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
